My brother and I built the bar from stock cabinets. Along the wall are standard counter cabinets, but the bar and candy counter are wall cabinets set up on a 2x4 base and reinforced with 1/2" plywood top to bottom on the back.

We left room for a compact refrigerator under the counter for beverages and chilled candy. It's decorated with movie-poster magnets. We also put up a square of track lights in place of one of the can lights originally installed in the ceiling. These light up my movie memorabilia collection nicely. |

We cut the back out of a 36" cabinet to make the display case. I ordered 1/4" tempered glass shelves and 1/8" mirrors to go inside. We glued two mirrors to the back of the doors and lay one on the bottom of the cabinet to relect up. We added an outlet inside the cabinet to plug in rope lights and any other light or electrical gadget I might want to put inside the display case. This is wired to a switch above the counter, next to the microwave oven. In the future, this could be a display cabinet for anything: collectibles, toys, liquor--whatever. |
